Kerry Cline is a New
Zealand artist who has lived in Seward since 1993. She cannot remember a time in
her life when she did not have a paintbrush in her hand.
Kerry's inspiration is drawn from the natural beauty around her.
Her interest in painting on the highest quality pure silk was
inspired in 1986 when she discovered special dyes that reflect
the crystal clear colors she sees in her environment.
In the true spirit of
"clean green" these dyes do not require excessive use of water
or give off any chemical residues.
To create her individual
pieces of art, Kerry tensions the silk fabric on specially made
stretchers, and paints them in the studio adjoining her home.
Kerry also paints with oils on
canvas, watercolors and does dry felted pieces, gives art
instruction and generally enjoys life.
The studio is just off the showroom and is
an organized clutter of work in progress, ideas for projects,
paints, dyes and frames. She opened Softly Silk in
1996 with an emphasis on hand-made items based on Silk.
