"The Newest Natural Fiber in the World!"
New Zealand "Australian" Opossum  -  Trichosurus Vulpecula

Fur: The Brushtail Possum's fur has a unique hollow structure which gives 'possum' fiber it's softness and unequalled warmth.  The possum fur can be used by itself or blended with silk and/or merino wool.

General: Introduced from Australia last century to establish a fur industry, opossums have created havoc in New Zealand forests. Large amounts of money continue to be spent on control measures, and now the fiber is being used for sweaters, as well as fur products.

Range: New Zealand wide, including many off-shore islands

Habitat: Native forest, also small areas of bush and scrub.

Food: Leaves, shoots, fruit etc, of a wide variety of native and introduced plants.
